The Somali region of Ethiopia which has a population of about 5 million people, is the most important food and water insecure region in the country and depends heavily on natural rain and nearly 80% of people are pastoralists. In order to address this underlying causes of vulnerability and enhance the communities resilience, an Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction approach was designed and implemented. This feature showcases how we were able to meet the program’s objective by; improving the food security, livelihoods, water security and adaptive capacity of 50,000 people in 9 kebeles.
